A town of pubs
Westport is well-known for the number and variety of its pubs. Whether you're strolling on James Street, Bridge Street, Mill Street or High Street, or along "The Mall" (the street along the river), you'll find a wide variety of pubs. It's an easy walk around Westport town centre making it ideally suited for a "pub crawl." In addition, most hotels will have an attractive and full service pub (or two). Most good pubs won't have TVs, but there are certainly a number of pubs that will broadcast sporting events. Many pubs will have live music - Irish trad, Country & Western, Jazz, Rock, Blues - it depends on the night and which pub you happen to be in. Be mindful that Irish nightlife begins a bit later, with music often advertised as starting at "half-nine" (9:30) and beginning somewhat later than that. Remember that the sun stays up late in Ireland this time of year - actual sunset is at 10:00 p.m. and you'd be able to see your ball fly down the fairway until 10:40 or so. Remember also that the sun will nudge you awake early, with actual sunrise at 4:58 a.m., - you could also chase that proverbial ball down the fairway as early as 4:30...
A word of caution: Irish "drink driving" laws are extremely strict. Most Irish people would limit themselves to 1 pint (if any at all) if they're going to be driving. If you're going to stay outside of walking distance of town, you'll be happy to know that taxis line Bridge Street (the center of night life) each evening once the pubs get going.
