Westport Golf Club
There sure is plenty of quality golf in the area - in fact, some courses would certainly qualify as "bucket list" courses for any avid golfer.
However, a caveat. Those courses - Connemara in Ballyconneely, Carne on the Belmullet Peninsula, Enniscrone, Rosses Point - are all a bit distant. The closest are an hour and a quarter away, the more distant are close to two hours. Therefore, savoring these courses probably means committing at least three-quarters of your day to this pursuit. Only you can decide, along with your significant other, whether this would be a good spend of time on your family holiday. An additional caveat, these courses are not for the faint-of-heart. Bring your best game and expect to be beaten up. Of course, an exhilarating bit of discipline it would be... You'll find a tab on this website - "Extraordinary Golf" - that will give you a taste of the challenge.
I'm a member of Westport GC. Guest fees would be modest, it's around the corner, it's a gorgeous setting on the bay and under the watchful eye of St. Patrick's holy mountain. Also, it lends itself to 6/9/13 hole rounds since these holes pass close to the clubhouse.
Anyone with an interest in golfing should probably let me know their wishes in this regard by June 1 so any trips can be planned.
